2009 Food Challenge

The past few times I've gone to the grocery store, I kept thinking that I should buy some eggs. Now, normally, I only use eggs to bake with. It's been 9 or 10 years since I've eaten an egg by itself. I had one once and didn't like it, so I never had one again.

Don't you think it's time I tried another egg?

So yesterday, at the store, I bought a half dozen eggs. And last night, at my apartment, I scrambled one.

Yes... only one. Which I realize now results in very little egg.

And after I scrambled it, I ate it. Well... some of it.

You know what? It wasn't horrible. Actually, it didn't have much of a taste at all. The texture was different... spongy.

While I don't think eggs will become my new favorite food, it really got me to thinking... I need to start re-trying more foods.

Thus begins the 2009 Food Challenge!

How does this work? Well, every time I go grocery shopping, I will buy ONE item that I have either never tried, or tried once and disliked.

For those of you who've been around for a while, you remember that I'm a SUPER picky eater. Therefore, this challenge should last me a looong time (all year, perhaps?).

I'll be blogging about the delicious (more like nauseating) results.

I never liked eggs either. The smell, the texture, the taste. Ew. But when I started running, I started craving eggs. (and milk - something else I never really cared for)
They are a great source of protein and as long as you don't fry 'em up every day - a pretty healthy choice. I boil several each week to keep in the fridge. I have one every morning (without the yolk) along with my oatmeal and blueberries.
Good for you trying new foods! I look forward to reading all about your new faves!

You know, an egg is just a chicken period...Ha! Try not to think of that next time you order them. :-x

Good luck with the food challenge!! I LOVE eggs!! Try adding some herbs to the scramble. Pharmie loves it when I make her a 1 egg/3 egg white omelet with Italian Seasoning and fresh basil! GOOD STUFF!!

(And regarding your "posting to the future" question: when you're creating a new post, you can click on "Post Options" under the area where you just typed up the post. Under the Post Options, you can choose a time and date to have your post publish [it defaults to being RIGHT NOW]. So before we left for Cozumel, I had 5 posts waiting in blogger that were ready to post on different days. I had to do NOTHING after that! Hope that helps!!)

You should venture into some Whole Foods stores or markets with international food. That'll be for some interesting tasting/reading. But seriously this sounds like a lot of fun. I love to try new food!

Egg Tip:

1) Use two eggs
2) Mix in a glass
3) Add a little salt and pepper into the mix
4) Add a tablespoon or so of milk
5) Mix and then scramble on a hot pan.

It will result in a fluffier egg with more flavor.

I also vote for adding some milk to the eggs when you scramble them. I'm not sure what it does, but it makes them taste good.

What is next on ths list?? I recently found out that I don't mind olives. They are a good source of the 'good' fat which has to be a good thing.

(PS - I post in the future probably every other week. It is the best!!)
